Our Services
At the heart of every piece of communication is a story—and the best stories are clear, concise, consistent, accurate, and thoughtful. We partner with authors as a second set of eyes trained to polish copy to avoid errors and ensure that your intended message shines through.
It is always the author’s story to tell. We are here to make it the best it can be.
Manuscript Evaluation
You have written a complete (or nearly complete) draft with a beginning, middle, and end. Hooray! What now? A manuscript evaluation includes an analysis and critique of the structure, story, and style. This service includes one read-through, a full report, and a ninety-minute debrief meeting.
Stylistic Editing
Stylistic editing (also known as line editing, content editing, or substantive editing) addresses readability, flow, structure, meaning and logic, and writing style. During this stage, the editor may suggest deleting or transposing words or phrases, query chronology issues, seek to clarify material that could be confusing, or suggest rewrites on the sentence level.
Copyediting
Copyediting consists of performing mechanical edits—spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, abbreviations, format of lists, etc.; checking for correlating parts; language editing; content editing; permissions; and markup.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step in the editing process before a piece goes to publication. This edit is a last chance to address errors in the text or format.
Writing
Struggling to find the words or the time to write? I have twenty years of experience writing for news media, education, and business environments. As a news reporter I covered a wide range of articles, with a special focus on human interest stories and business trends. My work has been published in several daily and weekly publications, including the Denver Business Journal.
Beta Reading
A beta read is best done by: a stranger (not your best friend, not your favorite aunt) and someone who is within your target audience. This service includes a careful read of a fine-tuned manuscript and a one page report outlining the reader reaction. It is a mini focus group for your book. The report will include reactions to the story, questions, and an honest review of the manuscript as a whole. This step is completed before typesetting and proofreading in case you decide anything needs to be reworked based on the feedback.
